I’ve heard a lot about high school dropouts. through my years in highschool this topic had always popped up. I wonder is dropping out of high school bad as some make it seem? My opinion is that dropping out high school isn’t as bad as some people make it seem. A lot of smart people drop out of high school, people like Einstein dropped out at age 16 and still accomplished many things in life. I discovered a lot about high school dropouts and the many reasons on why students make this decision. Matthew Lynch, Ed.D. the author of â€Å"The Call to Teach† wrote a well informed article â€Å"Cause and Effect: The High Cost of High School Dropouts.† I decided to use this for facts of high school dropouts. Another article I found interesting was from Dorothy Stoneman founder and CEO of YouthBuild USA, inc. She wrote â€Å"Don t Call Them Dropouts: Call Them Leaders-in-Waiting,† both articles were found in the huffington post website. what are some reasons students drop out? Lynch found that one unchanging factor when it comes to the dropout rate is socioeconomic background. Students from low-income families are 2.4 times more likely to drop out than middle-income kids, and over 10 times more likely than high-income peers to drop out. The socioeconomic status of each pupil impacts the graduation rate, but it isn’t the only disadvantage many pupils have. Students with disabilities have about a thirty six percent dropout rate.
